Hauxi Street Night Market, aka Snake Alley, was recommended to me by locals as a place to experience the poorer side of Taipei.
The market contains stands serving local snacks, and restaurants that serve traditional Taiwanese dishes including delicacies such as snake blood+meat and turtle blood+meat, which are not usually found anywhere else.
It is also said to be more of a seedy market, known for adult massages. However in recent times the place has become more family friendly. After arriving late (at around 11pm Taipei time) there were still many families out with kids buying food.
Overall it felt very similar to all the other night markets in Taipei. Featuring collectibles toys & cheap electronics, but had a smaller range of food in comparison to Raohe Night Market.
I'd hoped to see some of the live snake preparations but not much was going on at the restaurant. A local, who looked like he had too much to drink, passed by on his motorbike playing 70s music.
Like most night markets in Taipei they had a foot massage/manicure spa. Snake Alley is well worth the look but I wouldn't go back unless my hotel was nearby.
The MRT is a 20-minute walk away so I took a taxi back to my hotel
